Based on the experiences of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, this intense war drama tells the story of Gen. Frank Savage who takes over a bomber squadron and eventually shows the pilots how to take pride in their unit and serve above and beyond the standards of the Army Air Corps. The air battle scenes in this Motion Picture were photographed in actual combat by members of the United States Air Force and the German Luftwaffe. In 1998, the film was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
